How It Works

While our primary focus is on sealing leaking showers without removing tiles using our Ultra Bond Technology Shower Sealing System, there are times when the damage is too extensive for a tile-free repair. This may be due to excessive loose or cracked tiles, significant underlying damage, or a failed waterproofing membrane. In these cases, partial or full shower waterproofing and retiling, or a complete shower renovation, may provide the most suitable long-term solution.

We carry out a detailed inspection to identify all potential leak sources, including tiles, grout, sealants, junctions, drains, shower screens, failed waterproofing and any suspected structural issues beneath or behind the shower. We then provide our findings, recommended repairs and a detailed quote so you can make an informed decision.
Where the waterproofing membrane requires replacement, the shower screen is removed to allow access beneath the tiles and cement bed. Depending on the quoted scope of works, part or all of the tiles, cement bed and, where applicable, the shower hob are removed. Any underlying damage is repaired before the shower is prepared for the installation of a new waterproofing membrane.
The shower is waterproofed to Australian Standards, with a new hob and cement bed installed where required, before being partially or fully retiled in accordance with the quoted scope of works. The area is then regrouted and sealed, with a new shower screen typically installed to complete the project.

What We Fix

Brisbane showers are exposed to daily moisture, building movement, and the natural wear that comes with age, all of which can gradually compromise the waterproofing membrane sitting beneath your tiles and cement bed. When this happens, water often begins appearing as visible damage in surrounding walls, floors, or ceilings.

Our first priority for every Brisbane shower is to assess whether our Ultra Bond Technology Shower Sealing System can resolve the issue without removing tiles, saving you the cost and disruption of more extensive works. Where the shower has deteriorated too far with significant loose or cracked tiles, underlying damage, or structural concerns, full shower waterproofing and tiling, or a complete renovation, may be the only suitable long-term solution.

Shower Waterproofing FAQs, Brisbane

Shower waterproofing refers to the waterproofing membrane installed beneath the tiles and cement bed that is designed to stop water from penetrating into the surrounding walls, flooring, cabinetry, ceilings, and or adjoining rooms.

Shower waterproofing is the primary system that protects your home from water damage. While grout and sealants act as the first line of defence to stop water penetrating in under the tiles, the waterproofing membrane beneath the tiles is what ultimately prevents water from damaging surrounding building materials.

Common signs include water stains on walls, ceilings, skirting boards, or vanity units, damp smells, wet carpet or flooring near the bathroom, recurring moisture outside the shower, deteriorated grout and sealants, loose tiles, and ongoing leakage issues.

Using our Ultra Bond Technology Shower Sealing System, we can seal up to 95% of leaking showers without removing tiles. However, if the waterproofing membrane itself requires replacement, the tiles and cement bed must generally be removed so the membrane can be physically replaced. Waterproofing membrane replacement is the only way to obtain a waterproofing certificate.

Because waterproofing membranes are hidden beneath the tiles, failure cannot usually be seen directly. However, visible leakage, water damage, moisture issues, and ongoing deterioration within or around the shower can often indicate waterproofing failure or water bypassing the waterproofed area.

The most common causes include age-related deterioration, incorrect installation, inadequate waterproofing coverage, damage during construction, structural movement, and long-term exposure to moisture.

Yes. Brisbane’s warm climate, humidity, and frequent shower use can accelerate the deterioration of grout, sealants, and other shower components, increasing the likelihood of water penetration issues over time.

Waterproofing replacement is generally required where there are significant loose or cracked tiles, structural issues, excessive movement, extensive damage, or where a shower is undergoing major renovation works.

No. Shower sealing involves restoring grout and sealing common leakage points at the surface level. Shower waterproofing refers to the waterproofing membrane installed beneath the tiles. While sealing can be an effective repair solution in many cases, it is not the same as replacing the waterproofing membrane.

Shower Sealed provides shower waterproofing services throughout all Brisbane suburbs, including North Brisbane, South Brisbane, East Brisbane, West Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, and surrounding areas. Our service area extends north to Narangba, west to Brassall, south to Logan, and across all Brisbane suburbs in between.

Please be aware that we do not offer shower waterproofing membrane replacement as a stand-alone service, our shower waterproofing membrane replacement services are always in conjunction with our shower tiling and or shower renovation works.
